I spoiled myself tonight and had dinner and watched Indy IV at the Alamo Drafthouse Lakecreek. Even the 1045 show was packed but we had a good audience. There are few directors who can direct action sequences like Spielberg and Lucas is the Jedi Master of the visual metaphor. This is a movie for the fans of the Indiana Jones series and the conspiracy buffs, too. Very few actors can give an action hero both brains and toughness as well as Harrison Ford. IMHO it wasn't Raiders but put it against Temple or Last Crusade and it will hold it's own. I greatly enjoyed Karen Allen and Shia LeBeouf performances as well. The casting director needs to be thrown into the Well of Souls for casting Cate Blanchett as a Soviet psychic soldier. Why not Milla Jovavich or some other actress of Eastern European extraction or better yet a real Russian actress. Ray Winstone wasn't very convincing either. John Hurt is always convincing as someone a few fries short of his happy meal. I'll have to wait to see The Hulk, The Dark Knight or X: Files to tell you if this is the best action/sci fi flick this year but those movies have a high hurdle to pass which Indiana Jones cleared by 6 inches.
